Athabasca University Honours MBA Grads
For Immediate Release - June 13, 2008
(St. Albert, AB) - On June 14, Athabasca University will celebrate the achievements of 169 new MBA grads at a Convocation ceremony in Athabasca and an MBA Gala at the Westin in Edmonton. This year’s class includes grads from across Canada and the United States, as well as Congo, Ukraine, Kuwait, Lebanon, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Australia and the United Kingdom.
Athabasca University’s online MBA program, renowned for its flexibility and rigor, was the perfect choice for Mike McInnis, Assistant Vice President and Deputy Manager of Canadian Western Bank. “The Athabasca MBA experience was much more than I could have imagined. The work load was staggering at times, although it led to a learning experience that far exceeded my expectations. Getting perspectives from fellow students and academics from different cultures, countries, and levels of organizations from front line managers to top executives, in small companies to multinationals, expanded my learning exponentially. “
Akin Oni, Deputy Project Director for BHP Billiton-Nickel in Perth, Australia, is one of the graduates making the journey to Athabasca. "I began the MBA while working for BHP in Yellowknife, NWT and was promoted to my current role in Perth near the end of the MBA. The Athabasca MBA was an amazing adventure. I had to stay relentlessly focused and be disciplined with my time management to be successful throughout the program. I really believe this has been a much more than getting three letters behind my name, it’s been a learning experience that has enhanced my career. It’s already had a wonderful impact on my life and the lives of my wife and three children as we enjoy our new life in Australia!”
As Dr. Alex Kondra, Executive Director of the Centre for Innovative Management, home of Athabasca University’s graduate management programs notes, “Convocation is not only a time when we celebrate the exceptional achievements of our grads, it is a time to reflect on the impact of this MBA program on countless organizations world-wide. The relationships that are formed online extend well beyond our virtual learning environment, and this Convocation is one more expression of the powerful connection that AU MBA grads share with each other and Athabasca University.
