23.10.2009 Financial Times ranks WU Executive MBA with leading programs worldwide

WU Executive Academy’s Executive MBA moved up a total of 11 places in this year’s Financial Times ranking. Bodo Schlegelmilch, Dean of the WU Executive Academy, is very pleased with the result: “Last year, ours was the first Austrian Executive MBA program to be included in the ranking, and this year we have already moved up 11 places“, he says.

WU‘s Executive MBA was ranked at a respectable 41st place among the world’s leading MBA programs. WU’s Executive MBA placed 13th in comparison with other European programs,  and 5th in the German-speaking world (Germany, Austria and Switzerland). “It’s not only the position in this ranking that is important to us, but also the comparison with other Executive MBA programs. This year, for example, we placed ahead of programs from internationally renowned schools such as the University of Texas at Austin, St. Gallen, Ashridge and the Stockholm School of Economics”, continues Schlegelmilch.

Top 20 in the most important categories

The total ranking is made up of results in 16 different categories. WU’s Executive MBA improved its position in almost all relevant categories as compared to last year’s ranking. The Executive MBA even placed in the top 20 in three categories that are particularly important to program participants. In the category “International course experience”, WU’s Executive MBA placed 13th, ahead of INSEAD, IMD and the London Business School. The program is very international, offering three 10-day study trips to Asia, Eastern Europe and the USA. The criteria “Work experience” and “International students” came in 18th and 16th, respectively. 51% of the program’s graduates report an increase in salary, putting the Executive MBA at place 37 in the category “Career progress”.

Strict selection process for participation in ranking

The Financial Times ranking is one of the most important and prestigious international MBA rankings. Before programs are admitted to the ranking, they are submitted to a comprehensive pre-selection process and have to fulfill strict criteria. The final ranking is the result of a very complex process which analyzes the quality of the programs and the career development of program graduates. Financial Times obtains most of the data for the ranking directly from the graduates themselves, for maximum objectivity. Participating universities provide quantitative data on students, faculty, contents and research activities.
