11.8.2010 GU to start MBA in hotel management, tourism

PANAJI: Goa University will introduce a postgraduate programme in hotel management and tourism and another in ocean science and technology from the next academic year, university vice-chancellor Deelip Deobagkar said on Tuesday.

Speaking to the media at the university, Deobagkar said that students will be able to join the masters in business administration (MBA) programme in hotel management and tourism after their graduation and entry into the institute will be through a national level entrance exam. He added that this will stop the outflow of students from Goa to other states for the course, which is sought after by a large number of students from Goa.

Deobagkar said he is also exploring the possibility of providing the option of students undergoing the course on a part-time basis, which will enable working people to benefit from the programme. He said that the university is also planning to offer degree, diploma and certificate programmes in hotel management and tourism after class XII so that Goan students will have an advantage over students of other states when they appear for the entrance exam to get into the MBA programme in the subject at GU.
