Going abroad: The world of business schools / regional distinctions
In its spring edition the QS' MBA-magazine “TopMBA” reports on characteristics of MBA studies in different countries. Here is an overview.
The US are still the world’s top destination for MBA students - especially preferred by those from India. Even if the instable situation on the financial market has its effects on the recruitment of candidates. Most progammes span two years which gives he opportunity to change one’s mind midway. Not least, students coming from the eurozone benefit from advantageous exchange rates.
Good old Europe is not far behind, as there are many well established business-schools with a strong specialisation in entrepreneurship and a close proximity to many European companies and a prevalence of the one-year MBA program, states the magazine. Top destinations are the UK (London Business School for instance, read more on the mba-platform), but also France (e.g. INSEAD in Fontainebleau, read more on the mba-platform), Germany, Spain and Italy are on a catch-up race as their industrial and technological sectors develop.
Asia becomes a more and more respectable destination for prospective MBAs, with India being on the top. Relatively low costs for international students and the advantage of the possibility to gain highly valuable intercultural skills within a different business culture are among the plus factors.
Australia: Small continent, big MBA country, as it is the fifth most popular study destination according to the QS TopMBA Applicants Survey of 2007, behind the US, UK, Canada and France. The continent is especially popular amongst students from the Asian-Pacific area as it culturally bridges their countries and offers the comfort of an English native speaker country. Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, too, are in demand. |
